London 2 November 2009 – Barclays Capital, the investment banking division of Barclays Bank PLC, today announced that its Barclays Natural Resource Investments (BNRI) team has partnered with Richard Hall and Rory Edwards to create a new oil & gas development company, Nio Petroleum, which will focus on undeveloped discoveries, marginal fields and late-life assets in South East Asia.

Barclays Capital today announced the appointment of Joseph Gatto as Chairman of Investment Banking for the Americas. Mr. Gatto will be based in New York and will continue to report to Hugh (Skip) McGee, Head of Global Investment Banking.

Barclays Capital today announced the appointment of Thomas King as Co-Head of Corporate Finance within the firm’s Investment Banking Division. Mr. King will be based in London and will partner with New York-based Ros Stephenson, the current Co-Head of Corporate Finance, to lead Barclays Capital’s industry and country coverage efforts on a global basis. Mr. King and Ms. Stephenson will report to Hugh (Skip) McGee, Head of Global Investment Banking.

Barclays Capital has been voted the number one research house in Asia in the 2009 FinanceAsia Fixed-Income Research Poll, more than doubling the number of votes received in 2008 when the firm ranked #5. This is the first time Barclays Capital's Asia research has secured such status in a regional survey.
