BARCLAYS JAPAN EXPANDS EQUITY RESEARCH, APPOINTS RYOTA HIMENO TO COVER THE JAPAN TRANSPORTATION SECTOR

Barclays Capital Japan Limited is pleased to announce the appointment of Ryota Himeno as Japan Transportation analyst in Equity Research.

Mr. Himeno will be based in Tokyo and will report to Koichiro Chiwata, Head of Equity Research in Japan.

Prior to joining Barclays, Mr. Himeno worked for Mitsubishi UFJ Securities as a Transportation sector analyst. Before that he worked for Meiji Dresdner Asset Management covering various research sectors including Transportation, Utilities, Real Estate and Construction. He also gained experience and expertise as a sales representative at Mitsubishi Securities.

Commenting on the appointment, Eiji Nakai, President and Chief Executive Officer of Barclays Capital Japan Limited, said: “Barclays has achieved a measured expansion of its equities business following its launch in Japan in 2008. When building an equities business, it is essential to demonstrate effective partnership between sales and research in order to continuously deliver top quality service to our clients. In this respect, we expect Mr. Himeno to utilise his experience to contribute to this process and further enhance Barclays equities business.”

Koichiro Chiwata added: “Mr. Himeno’s appointment marks the further strengthening and expansion of our Japan research business. His extensive previous experience working on both the buy and sell side makes him a valuable addition to our research team.”

Since its foundation in 2008, Barclays Japan Equity Research has expanded and strengthened its capabilities by maintaining a balanced mix of top-ranked, experienced senior analysts and “home grown” analysts who have started their careers at Barclays. At present, Barclays Japan Equity Research’s 21 research analysts cover 214 companies.

In 2011, Barclays Japan Equity Research team initiated coverage of the Autos, J-REITs, Heavy Industries & Plant Engineering, Trading, Food and Metals and Mining sectors. In March 2012, Azuma Ohno initiated coverage of the Japan Brokerage, Non-bank and Insurance sectors. Also, Jeff Igushi, who joined Barclays in January this year and who was formerly a country manager for technology manufacturer Kingston Technology Company, will be responsible for coverage of the Industrial Electronics sector.
