Application Process

Our interview and selection process is designed to help you, and us, decide whether joining Barclays Capital is the right move for your career. Through a combination of interviews and online testing, where appropriate, we’ll ask you about what you’ve done before and what you want to achieve next.

You’ll understand more about the role and the people you’ll be working with, as well as experience the way we do things.

It’s a rigorous but fair approach that helps us strengthen our culture with everyone we hire. And it’s designed to give you the confidence that you’re making the right move.

What are we looking for?

  • People whose career aspirations match the role we are offering
  • People who can clearly show how they have developed throughout their career
  • People with the right knowledge, skills and experience
  • People who can clearly demonstrate the results they have achieved
  • People with excellent qualifications – in their education and any relevant professional field
  • People who can demonstrate our corporate values of teamwork, meritocracy, integrity, speed and accuracy

Who will interview me?
Every career is different so we take a flexible approach to interviewing. But you can expect to be interviewed by a combination of technical specialists, managers and HR.
As well as giving us a chance to understand your skills in different areas, you get to meet people from different parts of our business, which gives you a better understanding of our culture.

How should I prepare for the interview?
Think about how your experience matches the role and how it would help you excel. Understand what motivates you and what you need to succeed. And find out about us – what we do for our clients and how we do it.

An interview isn’t a test. It’s a conversation about how your knowledge, skills and experiences can help us become the premier global investment bank. We’re not looking for people to fail, so come ready to succeed.

How will I be assessed?
Where appropriate, your technical abilities will be assessed either online or in person, using a format that matches your area of expertise. For example, a web-based test you can complete from home or a structured technical interview with one of our specialists.
Your wider skills will be assessed though a competency-based interview. Barclays Capital has six core competencies and the interviewers will look to understand more about those competencies that are most relevant to the new role. There’ll be other questions as well but the competencies will be the core of the interview.
