Barclays Capital today announced the appointment of Joseph Gatto as Chairman of Investment Banking for the Americas. Mr. Gatto will be based in New York and will continue to report to Hugh (Skip) McGee, Head of Global Investment Banking.

In this newly created position, Mr. Gatto will focus on building and expanding senior relationships with many of Barclays Capital’s most important clients, providing them strategic advice on mergers and acquisitions and capital markets activities.

Prior to today’s appointment, Mr. Gatto served as co-head of Corporate Finance in the Investment Banking Division of Barclays Capital. Before joining Lehman Brothers in 2005, Mr. Gatto spent 21 years at Goldman Sachs, becoming a partner in 1994 and serving as Chairman of Consumer Products Banking. Over the course of the last five years, he has advised clients on more than US$100 billion of transactions, primarily in the consumer sector.
