NEW YORK (July 23, 2008) – Barclays Capital, the investment banking division of Barclays Bank PLC, is pleased to announce the appointment of James J. Paris as a Managing Director and Head of Paper & Packaging in the Investment Banking Division, based in New York.

In recent months, Barclays Capital has expanded its investment banking coverage of major industry sectors through the addition of several senior appointments specializing in major product categories across debt, equity and M&A.   In addition to paper & packaging, the firm has recently expanded its coverage of the power, healthcare, retail and industrials sectors.

Mr. Paris was most recently a Managing Director in the Leveraged Finance Group at Deutsche Bank.  In this role he focused on the origination, execution and structuring of leveraged financing transactions for financial sponsors and corporate clients in the paper & packaging sectors.  Mr. Paris began his career as an associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore.  He received a Juris Doctorate from Harvard Law School and a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Indiana University.
