London - Barclays PLC (“Barclays”) today announces the appointment of Roger Jenkins in a new role as Chairman of Investment Banking and Investment Management (“IBIM”) for the Middle East. This new position will be in addition to his existing roles as Chief Executive of Barclays Private Equity, Principal Investments and Structured Capital Markets and a member of IBIM's Executive Committee. In this role, Roger will seek to further strengthen relationships with Barclays clients in the region to ensure they benefit from IBIM's breadth and depth of products and services.
The Middle East region offers substantial business opportunities for Barclays. Many of the largest Sovereign funds are based in this region as well as high net worth individuals and leading world class companies. All these clients are looking for investment management, wealth creation, risk management and financing solutions which IBIM is in a unique position to provide. These assets are growing at close to 20% per annum. About Roger Jenkins
Roger Jenkins is the Chief Executive of Barclays Private Equity, Principal Investments and Structured Capital Markets at Barclays Capital in London . He is also a member of Barclays Executive Committee and was Chairman of the Barclays Recruitment Committee from 2002 to 2007. He was appointed Chief Executive of Barclays Private Equity and Principal Investments in 2006. During this period, Barclays Private Equity has become firmly established as one of Europe's leading mid-market private equity investors and has a successful track record spanning over twenty five years. This success has been shared with its clients who have co-invested with Barclays in a number of profitable transactions.
Roger started his career with BP in Paris . He joined Barclays International in 1978 and went to New York in 1980 as Senior Vice- President and head of Private Placements until 1984. He then moved to Barclays Treasurers Group (1985 - 1986) where he was involved in establishing Barclays Futures and was the Manager of the Overseas Investment Group.
In 1987, Roger joined Kleinwort Benson, New York as head of Global Private Placements and Bank Syndications. He moved to London in 1990 to become the co-head of the Financial Markets division. In 1994, Roger rejoined Barclays to head up Structured Capital Markets.
Roger Jenkins is also a Non-Executive Director of Absa Group Limited, one of South Africa 's largest financial services organisations.
