Barclays Capital named Covered Bond House and Commodity Derivatives House by IFR magazine

17 Dec 2007

Barclays Capital has won two House of the Year awards from IFR magazine:

- Covered Bond House
- Commodity Derivatives House

Commenting on the awards, IFR said:

Covered Bond House: ".. One bank in 2007 continued to dominate all the main areas of the covered bond sector while maintaining its unrelenting pursuit of new buyers... In this very testing environment, Barclays Capital consistently achieved results, featuring in a number of successful issues even after the [liquidity] crisis was in full swing. The firm's message was clear: the show must go on… In a further example of its unrelenting service to investors, Barclays lead the way in research, with a very experienced and well known research team. Barclays Capital has also been instrumental in bringing new issuers to the market… Barclays has also maintained its dominant presence in the league tables, further affirming its leading [position] as a covered bond underwriter…"

Commodity Derivatives House: "For broadening the appeal of commodity structured products to new pools of investors, while also supplying cross-asset class solutions to the commodity-based problems, Barclays Capital is IFR's Commodity Derivatives House of the Year… Barclays Capital was one of the first dealers to challenge the bank commodity trading duopoly enjoyed by Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley…. It has certainly created a new banking Big Three in commodities. This bulge bracket was created despite aggressive moves from a growing number of banks to build market share… Barclays was able to increase market share in both emerging commodity sectors such as emissions and established areas like oil trading, despite having less of an emphasis on principal trading than some of its rivals."
