Barclays Capital wins four house awards

05 Oct 2007

Barclays Capital has won four awards in The Banker magazine's Investment Banking Awards:

  • Investment Grade Bond House
  • Covered Bond House
  • Prime Brokerage House
  • Emissions Trading House

This is the first time ever Barclays Capital has won four awards from The Banker. These awards reflect the success of our franchise and our continuous dedication to providing financing and risk management solutions to our clients.

Commenting on the awards, The Banker said:

Investment Grade Bond House of the Year
"Barclays Capital has long had a fantastic investment grade bond platform in Europe, but it is The Banker's Investment Grade Bond House of the Year in recognition of its impressive growth outside of its European heartland. For example, Barclays overall US investment grade corporate debt volume increased by 67% in the past 12 months, and it has increased US Investment Grade league table-eligible transactions by a startling 242% since Q1 2006."

Covered Bonds House of the Year
"Barclays Capital is The Banker's Covered Bonds House of the Year for the second year running because it remains the leader in bringing first-time issuers to market and paves the way into new regions. With the Washington Mutual deal, it led the way with an inaugural US covered bond; other debuts included Caixa Geral de Depositos' inaugural Portuguese bond, and DnB NOR's opening of the Norwegian covered bond market."

Prime Brokerage House of the Year
"This year's Prime Brokerage award goes to Barclays Capital in recognition of its rapid growth, continued innovation and commitment to developing a truly multi-asset class platform. In the past 12 months, it has doubled its cash equity volumes and grown its financing and stock lending balances by more than 50%. In the first half of this year, it added seven new markets to its synthetic coverage, bringing the total to 30, and added derivatives prime brokerage for commodities, credit products and FX."

Emissions Trading House of the Year
"Barclays Capital, The Banker's Emissions Trading House of the Year, has been at the forefront of emissions trading since the EU established its Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) in 2005, and has built its platform on a broad commodities franchise. It is the largest intermediary in the ETS market, and has traded 450 million tonnes of carbon credits, with a total notional value of about $7bn."
