Barclays Capital ranked no. 1 for US federal credit agency debt

NEW YORK (October 3, 2007) – Barclays Capital, the investment banking division of Barclays PLC, became the top dealer in volume for US federal credit agency debt. According to Thomson Financial, Barclays Capital’s leading market share was 11.8% with $33.7 billion in proceeds from January to September 2007. The firm ranked 5th for the same months in 2006 with a market share of 7.7% with $20.2 billion in proceeds.

“This is a fantastic achievement for Barclays Capital’s Agency franchise. The business has experienced strong growth over the past few years and this ranking solidifies our position in the US market,” said Eric Bommensath, Managing Director, Head of Rates, Americas and Head of Fixed Income.

Building up the USD Fixed Income Business has been one of Barclays Capital’s key objectives over the past several years. The firm has significantly expanded the team with several senior hires in the last year, including Ritanker “Ronti” Pal as Managing Director, Head of USD Fixed Income Linear Rates Trading; Michael Graf, Managing Director and Head of USD Agency, Supra Sovereign and Covered Bond Trading; Jim Besaw, Director and Head of the USD Options Desk; Robert Thrash, Director and US Dollar Vanilla Options Trader; Rajiv Setia, Director and Senior Fixed Income Strategist and Michael Dalton, Director and Head of USD Interest Rate Exotics Trading.
