Barclays Capital announced today the appointment of Jeffrey M. Peek to the position of Vice Chairman in the Investment Banking Division. Mr. Peek’s career in the financial services industry spans more than 30 years and encompasses executive positions in investment banking, asset management and securities research. He was most recently the Chairman and CEO of CIT Group.

In his role, Mr. Peek will support the continued growth of Barclays Capital’s investment banking business and provide senior counsel to clients across the firm, with a particular focus on clients in the Financial Services sector. He is based in New York and reports to Skip McGee, Head of Global Investment Banking.

Prior to joining CIT in 2003, Mr. Peek was a Vice Chairman of Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB) and was responsible for the firm’s Financial Services Division, including Credit Suisse Asset Management, Pershing and Private Client Services. He was a member of both the Group Executive Board of Credit Suisse Group and CSFB’s Executive Board and Operating Committee. Mr. Peek joined Credit Suisse in 2002 after almost two decades at Merrill Lynch, where he most recently served as Executive Vice President of Merrill Lynch and was President of Merrill Lynch Investment Managers. During his tenure at the firm, he also served on the Executive Management Committee of Merrill Lynch.

Mr. Peek is also an active member of the philanthropic community. He currently serves as a Trustee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Chairman of the Advisory Council for the Bendheim Center for Finance at Princeton University. He previously served as Treasurer of the New York City Ballet, Director of the Partnership for New York City and a Trustee of Teachers College at Columbia University.
