New York, NY (December 3, 2009) – Barclays Capital today announced the appointment of Adam Taetle as a Managing Director and Co-Head of the Global Consumer Group within the Investment Banking Division.

In his role, Mr. Taetle will partner with Nisha McGreevy, Co-Head of the Global Consumer Group, to oversee the firm’s coverage of corporate clients in the Consumer sector. He is based in New York and reports to Ros Stephenson and Tom King, Co-Heads of Corporate Finance, Investment Banking Division. He was most recently a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs.

“Adam brings a wealth of corporate finance and M&A expertise as well strong insights into the opportunities and challenges confronting Consumer companies. Partnering with Nisha, he will continue to expand our coverage of this important sector,” said Ms. Stephenson.

Over the course of his career, Mr. Taetle has advised clients on a broad spectrum of market-leading transactions. He recently advised PepsiAmericas, Inc., on its sale to PepsiCo for approximately $6 billion, William Wrigley Jr. Company on its $23.1 billion sale to Mars Inc., and Altria Group Inc., on its $11.6 billion acquisition of UST Inc.

Mr. Taetle joined Goldman Sachs in 1996 and was promoted to Managing Director in 2004. During his tenure at the firm, he worked in both the New York and Chicago offices.

In a further expansion of Barclays Capital’s Consumer investment banking platform, Sandeep Patel has been appointed a Managing Director in the Global Consumer Group and also joins from Goldman Sachs. Mr. Patel is based in New York and reports to Mr. Taetle and Ms. McGreevy. He joined Goldman Sachs’ M&A department in 1999 where he focused on the Consumer & Retail sectors. In 2006, he moved to Mumbai to help establish the firm’s presence in India and was most recently Head of India Corporate Finance.
