London - Barclays Capital, the investment banking division of Barclays Bank PLC, today announced the appointment of Stefano Marsaglia, as Chairman of the Global Financial Institutions Group (FIG) within its Investment Banking Division. This appointment continues the build out of Barclays Capital’s investment banking and advisory capabilities globally.

Mr Marsaglia will help to strengthen Barclays Capital’s existing client relationships, to build new relationships and to optimise the delivery of our world class Risk Management, Financing and Advisory capabilities. This strategy offers long-term opportunities for future growth and success as Barclays Capital looks to become one of the leading full service investment banks globally.

He will be based in London partnering with Jeffrey Weiss, Head of Global Financial Institutions, based in New York and John Winter, Head of Investment Banking EMEA, based in London.

Mr Marsaglia joins Barclays Capital after 17 years at Rothschild where his most recent position combined responsibilities as Co-Global Head of FIG and Co-Head of Investment Banking for Europe. He has managed the FIG team at Rothschild since 2004 and helped to deliver a number of high-profile transactions for amongst others Banco Santander, Intesa and Unicredito. Mr Marsaglia joined Rothschild in 1993 following six years at UBS and fours years at Morgan Grenfell, both in investment banking roles.
