NEW YORK, NY (March 11, 2009) – Barclays Capital (NYSE: BCS) today announced the appointment of Gary J. Posternack to Head of Mergers & Acquisitions, Americas. In his new role, Mr. Posternack will oversee the mergers and acquisitions (M&A) teams in the U.S., Canada and Latin America and will be based in New York. Mr. Posternack was previously Head of Natural Resources M&A and the M&A Takeover Defense practice at Barclays Capital. He will report to Paul G. Parker, Head of Global M&A at Barclays Capital.

Mr. Posternack has over 20 years of investment banking experience in New York and London. Prior to joining Barclays Capital in September 2008, Mr. Posternack held various positions at Lehman Brothers from 1995 to 2008. He led Lehman Brothers’ Natural Resources M&A franchise from 2004 to 2008 and, prior to that, also led Lehman’s Industrial M&A practice. Additionally, Mr. Posternack spearheaded Lehman Brothers’ M&A Takeover Defense practice for 10 years and then oversaw the practice at Barclays Capital when he joined the firm.

Mr. Posternack has advised clients across a broad range of industries on more than $300 billion of transactions, including Chevron's $19 billion acquisition of Unocal, GlobalSantaFe's $18 billion merger with Transocean, Kerr-McGee's $18 billion sale to Anadarko, U S WEST's $56 billion defense and sale to Qwest and MediaOne's $52 billion defense and sale to AT&T.
