Barclays Capital expands its successful EMEA Investment Banking franchise into Israel

28 Oct 2008

28 October 2008: Barclays Capital, the investment banking division of Barclays PLC, today announced the growth of its successful European, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Investment Banking franchise into Israel. The bank has appointed Leonard G. Rosen, formerly Chief Executive Officer of Lehman Brothers for Israel, as Chief Executive Officer – Israel at Barclays Capital, based in Tel Aviv.

All of the senior investment banking team and equity research team of the former Lehman Brothers’ Israel operation have also joined Barclays Capital. The team, under Len Rosen, will report into John Winter, Head of Investment Banking, EMEA at Barclays Capital.

Mr Winter said “Barclays Capital is delighted to further extend its strong franchise into Israel.  We are proud to play a central role in the continuing development of the country’s economy and to be an integral part of Israel’s financial markets. The addition of the former Lehman Brothers team, which has for many years been the pre-eminent investment banking operation in Israel, brings a whole new range of capabilities and opportunities to our team and clients, both in Israel and around the world, adding to our existing strength and global reach.

Today’s announcement adds another premier franchise to Barclays Capital and firmly positions the firm as the market-leader in Israeli investment banking. Mr Rosen and his colleagues have a proven track record in equities, fixed income and M&A. They have been involved in many of the landmark Israel-related transactions, taking the lead advisory role in the four largest ever M&A deals in Israel.

Mr Rosen said “We are thrilled to be part of Barclays Capital. With the backing of Barclays strong balance sheet, the enlarged Barclays Capital capabilities will make an important contribution to Israeli companies and to the growth of the country’s economy.”

The team’s existing strengths combined with our global presence and capabilities will enhance Barclays Capital’s offering to Israeli clients in a range of areas, such as commodities and foreign exchange.
